Psalm 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Things are continuing to develop in the Middle East and Europe. Russia is currently moving troops from Syria over to their battle with Ukraine. That is giving Iran a greater presence in Syria. Iran is intent on destroying Israel and this will give them greater opportunity to try. Of course, we know that God will protect Israel. We also know that there will be an alliance building with Russia at the head of it.
We noted yesterday that the attention of many has been turned to the Russia/Ukraine war. There are other activities happening, but this has been elevated as the main event. However, we know that Hamas is continuing to attack Israel. At least 19 Israelis have been killed in the past few weeks. These have been terrorist attacks. The Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem has been used as a staging place for weapons and for plotting their destruction in Israel against Jews.
Things are busy in that part of the world.
As we noted yesterday, the world is plotting against God. These things we see on the ground are all the shadow of a bigger issue which is the rejection of God and the desire to move Him out of the picture altogether.
We noted as well that God cannot be moved. He is God. He is in charge. He allows evil to advance to a certain point, but He is always in charge. Israel will never be destroyed. That we know from God’s Word. Israel will suffer greatly yet due to their rejection of God, but that does not mean God has forsaken them.
We have mentioned before that there are no signs that need to be fulfilled prior to God’s removal of the New Testament saints from this world. We call that event the “Rapture”. It is a word that comes from the phrase we have in I Thessalonians 4:17 “caught up”. That is something that every born again Christian is anticipating and it could happen at any time. In the meantime, born again Christians are also called on to be busy reminding others of the need to be saved and know God’s peace now. Keep in mind that true Christians are not escapists. True Christians are servants of the true and living God and His love fills our hearts with a love for others. We want to see others know His peace and blessing as well.
In verse 5 we are reminded of a future time when God will speak in His wrath unto those who are imagining a vain thing. John 3:16 is a very well known verse and most people want to focus in on the love of God. They have a false understanding of what God’s love is like. God does love the world. He did send His Son to stand in the place of wicked humanity. Jesus Christ came to lay down His life for mankind. He was buried and He rose again from the dead the third day and then ascended back to Heaven at Pentecost. He is seated on the right hand of His Father at this time. He is the Mediator between God and man.
God is angry with those who spit in His face. He created man and has given man so much and yet the majority mock Him and reject Him. We are told that God will vex them in His sore displeasure. The word translated as “vex” means “to act hastily and to be agitated”. God is never out of control. He is always reasoned and measured in His response. His response to rebellion is just and right. We know that there will be no unsaved people entering into the Millennium. God will remove all the ungodly from this world at the end of the Tribulation. All those born during the Millennium will still be born as lost sinners. They will still need to be saved. The Bible tells us that there will be many living during that time who will not get saved and they will join the devil, who will be released from the bottomless pit at the end of the Millennium. They will form a large army to attack the Lord Jesus Christ. Of course they will be no match for Him and they will be destroyed and then the great white throne will be set up to judge all the wicked, who will then be cast into the lake of fire.
In verse 6, the king is the Lord Jesus Christ. The holy hill of Zion is Jerusalem. As we mentioned Jerusalem is under attack right now. Hamas and Hezbollah and others are killing Jews with knives and axes and other means. Jerusalem is not a place of peace at this time. It will be in the Millennium.
Verse 7 makes it clear that this king will be the Lord Jesus Christ. God will declare Him to be His Son. God did that while Jesus was on earth at His first coming. He will be declared God’s Son again at His second coming. This will be a reminder to those who enter the Millennium, as well as those who live on this earth during the 1,000 year reign.
God will also remind those living at that time, of the incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ. The word “begotten” speaks to that fact. Jesus Christ was made flesh for the purpose of going to the cross and taking the sins of the world upon Him. He will not need to die again. His death was a one time event. He will be the victorious conqueror and king as well as the Messiah and Saviour.
The saints today need to be reminded that no matter how bad it gets, God is still in charge. God is limiting the effects of the wicked upon this world. They can plot and scheme, but they can only do as much as God allows. For those who are lost today, you need to be reminded that God is very much alive. You may want to align yourself with some human being who claims to have the answers. You will be sorely disappointed in whoever it is that you choose as your leader.
Canada is in the midst of the leadership race for leader of the Conservative party. It does not matter who is chosen as the next leader. They are all corrupt. Some may be more so than others, but they are all corrupt. They will all disappoint. We have noted before that even our P.M. is not in charge of this country. He is the puppet that gets to stand in front of the cameras and repeat the lines that his masters give him. He is quite content to do that now. He does not realize that his term is limited by God and he will be replaced by some other puppet at the appropriate time. The answer is to turn to the Lord and know His peace and blessing.
