The Need To Be Hallowed

The Need To Be Hallowed

Exodus 29:10  And thou shalt cause a bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock.
11  And thou shalt kill the bullock before the LORD, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
12  And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar.
13  And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.
14  But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.
15  Thou shalt also take one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram.
16  And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar.
17  And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head.
18  And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
19  And thou shalt take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram.
20  Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.
21  And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.
22  Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of consecration:
23  And one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before the LORD:
24  And thou shalt put all in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons; and shalt wave them for a wave offering before the LORD.
25  And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Certain animals would be very important for the nation of Israel, from God’s perspective. God created all things and He knew what would have key places in His creation. We need to keep in mind that God was preparing Aaron and his sons to be able to minister in the Tabernacle. The God-appointed priests were to be mediators between God and men. In order for them to do that, their sins needed to be atoned for. Thus the bullock needed to be brought before the Tabernacle of the congregation. Aaron and his sons needed to place their hands on the head of that bullock and then it needed to be killed. The blood of the bullock needed to be taken and put on the horns of the altar and the rest of the blood was to be poured out beside the bottom of the altar.
The horns were symbolic of power and strength. They needed to be covered in the blood of this bullock as a symbol of the place of power and authority. It was not the priests who had power and authority on their own. Their power and authority came from the Lord.
In Matthew 28:18 Jesus declared that His Father had given Him all power and authority. His blood was better than that of bulls and goats. His blood could remove sins. The blood of bulls and goats could only cover for sin.
The fat of the bullock and that of the liver and kidneys was to be burnt on the altar. The flesh of the bullock and the skin and the dung needed to be burned with fire outside the camp. This was a sin offering to make it possible for sinful men like Aaron and his sons to be able to minister before the Lord on behalf of the people. Aaron and his sons needed to have the fear of the Lord in their heart. The sacrifices would not give them that. Hypocrisy is common among us as people. Jesus addressed this often. He exposed the false teachers.
There were many false priests in the Old Testament, as there were false prophets. God gave man His law so that man could discern truth. We do not have that capacity on our own. God gave man a conscience. Those who are saved have an awakened conscience. Since the time of Acts 2, the Holy Spirit indwells every i saved person to give discernment. He will work in the heart of the saved person to make him or her uncomfortable with lies. It is up to born again Christians to listen to Him and to get into the Word of God and follow God into His Truth. There are too many careless Christians today.
In our text, Moses also needed to take the ram and kill it. The blood of that ram needed to be sprinkled round about upon the altar. The ram itself needed to be cut in pieces, the inwards of it needed to be washed. The ram needed to be burned on the altar as a burnt offering unto the LORD. The smell of the ram would satisfy the LORD’s righteous demands for a sinless mediator. The priests were not sinless. The blood of the ram would be a covering for their sin. This sacrifice needed to be repeated often. The shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ would end this Old Testament practice. Jesus’ blood would not only cover for sin, but it would remove the stain of sin.
God told Moses to take two rams and one bullock. We have now dealt with the bullock and one ram. The other ram was to be brought for Aaron and his sons to place their hands on the head of that ram. Then that ram needed to be killed and the blood taken and put on the tip of Aaron’s right ear and the tip of the right ear of his sons. It also needed to be put on the thumb of the right hand and the right great toe of their feet.
These were all symbolic events that were to remind Aaron and his sons of their duties and how they needed to be free from the pollution of sin in order to function as they needed to as priests.
In verse 21 we see that some of this blood needed to be mixed with the anointing oil and sprinkled on Aaron and his garments and upon his sons and their garments. These men would be reminded of the work they needed to do and how important it was for them to be free from sin.
Sin cannot enter heaven. God turned His back on His Son as He took our sin upon Himself on the cross. Jesus took that sin upon Himself, but He was not tainted with the sin. He took that sin out of the way through His shed blood.
In verses 22-24 we read that the meat of this ram was to be taken with one loaf of bread and one cake of oiled bread, and one unleavened wafer and put into the hands of Aaron and his sons and they were to wave it before the LORD.
This was symbolic of the fact that the sins needed to be presented before the Lord. Then they were to take these items and place them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD. It was an offering made by fire unto the LORD. Fire is for judgment and purification. This was again symbolic of the need for cleansing from sin. This could not be achieved with animal sacrifices. It could only be atoned for until the Lord Jesus Christ came and made it possible for the sins of the world to be forgiven and removed through His shed blood. This perfect sacrifice is only applicable to those who turn to God in repentance and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.
By faith in God’s promises, Moses and Aaron and others were saved because they trusted in the promise of God. They believed that He would provide the One True sacrifice that would take away sin.
Once again we have come to the first day of the week. We are given another opportunity to gather in the house of God to learn of Him. At this late hour it is a privilege to be able to gather in God’s house to learn how to better behave as true children of God. Of course this is for those who are saved. Lost people need to hear the preaching of God’s Word and they need to be saved. The hour is late. God’s clock is ticking. Soon the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ shall rise first and those alive in Christ will be caught up together with them in the air. That will usher in the time of the antichrist.
We know that Mr. Trump assumes no one can make peace but him. The Venezuelan opposition leader accepted the Nobel Peace Prize this week and dedicated it to Mr. Trump. We can acknowledge that he has been able to get some fragile peace agreements signed. God is allowing a godless man to have great influence on the world stage. This is a precursor to the coming of the antichrist. Thousands upon thousands of people have held their nose and supported godlessness over Truth. The antichrist will be embraced by the world. The world is starving for a leader to come and take control.
Many professing Christians will also embrace the antichrist. True Christians will be gone then. Some of those might be foolish enough to hem-haw about the value of the antichrist, if not for God’s mercy toward them. We need to remember that there will be saved people who will be saved though as by fire. No Christians is perfect. We, those who are saved, need to be reminded that it is the grace of God that is our strength and our help in time of need.
True peace will not happen in Mr. Trump’s lifetime. The fact that there will need to be troops to maintain order in the Middle East is proof that it is not a lasting peace. God is in charge. Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace.
Those reading this who are unsaved need to turn to God for salvation. He is the only hope of mankind. Be sure you go to a good church today. Take your Bible and follow along and ask God to show you His Truth for you today.
