Learning God’s Lessons

Learning God’s Lessons

I Corinthians 10:1  Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5  But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6  Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Monday was a sad day for the province of New Brunswick and for Canada. New Brunswick had their provincial “election” Monday and the Liberals have taken control of that province. In the Liberal party platform they stated that they would enact a policy that children aged 12 and over could proceed with gender changes without the schools notifying the parents. They would also like to “provide” for children under 12 to be able to consult with “trusted” people at the school without parental consent. The leader of the Liberal party came out to acknowledge her “success” in the election with her three young girls. Those poor girls are being abused, and society does not care.
There are many children that are being abused by the wicked sodomite policies of our country. It shows the depravity of our nation when this wickedness is celebrated. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of their wickedness.
The tribe of Benjamin was also wiped out during the time of the Judges because they harboured sodomites within that tribe. Through some scheming the rest of the tribes helped them to rebuild quicker than they would have otherwise.
I have stated before and will say it again; Christian parents should not be sending their children to a public school. Those poor children are filled with so much evil in those places. Loving parents do not subject their children to such evil.
The God of Creation has declared that He made them “male and female”. There is no third or fifth or however, many genders the wicked want to suggest. A child develops in the womb as either a boy or a girl and they are born according to that gender. Parents can try to confuse their child with who they are, but they cannot change who they are. In our wicked public educational system, the teachers are trained in eroding God from the conscience of each and every child. The teachers choose to act on their defiance of the facts and they are intent on reshaping society into a wicked, God-defying society. True, born again Christian parents, need to wake up and realize that God gave them those precious children. All parents will be held accountable to God for how they raise their children. God gave us THE instruction book on raising children. That book is called the Bible. It is the inspired Word of God. It is not a book of suggestions, as the perversions would have us believe. It is a book of absolutes that must be believed and followed. Those who tamper with God’s Word are under His judgment. Jesus stated that the lost are already under condemnation.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The solution to the sin nature is receiving THE GIFT OF GOD. There is no other option. Man MUST BE BORN AGAIN. He must be changed by God and he must surrender to God in order to be changed by God.
In our study of the book of I Corinthians, God directed the apostle Paul to address several sinful things that the saints were either directly involved in, or were tolerating in their midst.
In verse 1 of our text, God began by stating that He did not want the saints to be ignorant of the history of the nation of Israel. The entire nation left Egypt at the same time. They all passed through the Red Sea at the same time. They all witnessed the power of God in Egypt and in dividing the sea for them.
In verse 2 we read that they were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
God used the word “baptized” to describe the situation at that time. The Greek word translated as “baptize” means “to immerse.” To immerse has the implication of submission. When a saved person gets baptized it is a picture of the fact that they have already submitted to God’s authority in their life. They repented toward God and trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation. Biblical salvation is based upon faith in God and in God alone.
Paul was directed to talk of the fact that when the nation of Israel came to the Red Sea, they needed to submit to Moses’ leadership to get across that sea. God protected them with the cloud and He parted the waters of the Red Sea so that the nation of Israel could walk across on dry ground. They were completely dependent upon following what Moses told them to do. Of course we know that Moses followed God.
In verse 3 God further reminded the saints that the nation of Israel all ate from the same spiritual meat. In John 6 Jesus referred back to the manna that the nation of Israel ate and He reminded the Jews of His time, that that manna did not provide eternal life for the people.
The apostle Paul referred to the spiritual meat that the people ate. The manna and the water that the people ate and drank in Moses’ day was a picture of the Bread of Life that Jesus is and the Living Water that He is.

Deuteronomy 8:3  And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

God directed Moses to teach the people that the manna He provided them was a picture of something much more important. God’s design for that manna was to teach the people the superiority of the Word of the LORD. The nation of Israel grumbled and complained a lot after leaving Egypt; so much so that an entire generation, except for two men, died in the wilderness.
The water that God gave them out of the rock was also a type of the Lord Jesus Christ Who is the Rock upon whom we must build our lives. If a person chooses to build upon anything else, they have nothing.
Even though the nation of Israel ate of that spiritual meat and drank of that spiritual water, yet verse 5 tells us that God was not pleased with many of them. So much so that He overthrew them in the wilderness. I heard a young person say they did not like it when someone would tell them they were doing something wrong. That person announced their pride, which is sin. With that attitude, that person will face much trouble yet.
God was directing the apostle Paul to remind the saints in Corinth that exposure to the truth is not enough. The saved person is the one who receives the Word of God and is changed by It. There are many people who can talk about certain parts of the Bible. However, they have never allowed the Word of God to become their life.
Jesus taught this in a very clear manner in John 6. The Jews of that time took great offence to His teaching. They rejected the spiritual application of what He taught and they assumed He was saying they needed to literally eat Him. The Catholics took the distorted view of the Jews there and they believe that when the priest takes that wafer and “blesses” it, it becomes the body of Jesus Christ. Many people have foolishly and ignorantly taken that wafer and eaten it, believing that is their salvation.
As we see in verse 5, the Jews of Moses’ day all witnessed the same things. They all were given the same information. Most of them drew the wrong conclusion and they died without salvation because of it. A few like Joshua and Caleb and some within the next generation actually trusted in God.
The problem in Corinth was that there were some saved people in the church, but they also had a major problem in that church. There were people who were not benefiting from the truth. They were rejecting it and replacing it with their own ideas.
In verse 6 we are reminded that the things that Israel experienced in the Old Testament were for our learning. We need to be careful to understand what was happening there in the proper way. We need to understand that lusting after evil things is not acceptable to God today, any more than it was back then.
We know that the nation of Israel lusted for meat. God gave them quail and they lusted after them. They did not appreciate what God was doing for them, and many of them died with that meat between their teeth. They were unthankful and were only looking at the flesh, and not the spiritual need they had.
The soul of man longs for peace with God. Man is created in God’s image. Unless man is “connected” to God, he will never be complete. Lost humanity is busy imagining ways to find peace. He cannot find it but he assumes he is on the right path. False religion is much more acceptable to most than truth. We need to know the true God and personally yield to Him in order to truly benefit from the truth. We can still see how Israel is struggling because they are still living in rejection of the Truth. The day is coming when they will humble themselves and know God’s peace in their hearts.
God’s offer of peace is available to all people. It is only known by those who submit to Him and are truly born again.
