Deuteronomy 32:1 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
3 Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
5 They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.
God’s Word shows us that His Word is relevant for every generation. For those who are saved, and walking humbly with the Lord, we can see that what God said in Old Testament times still reflects the nature of man today and it also shows us Who He is.
God’s Word is extremely important for man. If it wasn’t so sad, it would be laughable to see how our governments are making fools of themselves. The people in government have learned the art of “craft”. They know how to spin a yarn, which is actually a lie. They know how to deflect and try to blame the other side. They all do it. The opposition tries to expose it in the ruling party, but when they get into power they do the same thing.
It is a comfort to actually know the true God and trust in Him. He has something to say and it is worth listening to. At my age, I do not have much tolerance for politicians anymore. I have heard their lies so many times, that it is sickening.
There are certain foods I do not care for. I know that and so I avoid them. If I am visiting in someone’s house and they put food in front of me, I do not make a scene or complain. However, at home, I can be choosy. I can eat things I know I like and that I know will not have any adverse side effects.
That is how I look at not just politics, but at religious speakers as well. If someone wants to open a perversion and start with that, I am done. They will not have anything worth listening to. If they want to start to throw some perversions into the mix as they go along, I am done as well. If someone wants to promote Calvinism, I am not interested. We could go on.
In verse 2 God says His doctrine will fall as rain. A nice rain is so welcome in the spring and summer. It freshens up the air and the birds love it. They praise God with their songs after a nice rain. The crops love it as well.
For me, hearing a good preacher challenge me from God’s Word is like that. That is what God says it should be. It is like the dew and the small rain upon the tender herb. It is not designed to shred the leaves and pound the plant into the ground. The plants can drink it up and stretch out their leaves and benefit greatly from what God gives them. So it is with the humble child of God. We do not need to avoid certain doctrines. We do not need to try to change doctrine because a certain person is in our midst. God’s Word is good for us.
In verse 3 we see what publishing houses should be printing and promoting. We need to publish the name of the LORD. That is the eternal, self-existent God. He is not dependent upon man. He is not subservient to man. He declares the Truth and It stands. No one will ever destroy the Truth. Perversions are trying to destroy it, but they will never succeed.
We need to ascribe greatness to our God. He is worthy. As we look at the murder of unborn children, we need to remind people who is the Giver of Life. We have no right to murder that life just because it does not fit our plans. He designed them male and female and we can declare that from the housetops. It is due to the timidity of professing Christians, that the world has become so emboldened. Too many professing Christians try to mix truth with error and think they can cover all bases that way. They just create confusion and they cause the wicked to scoff at the assumed weakness of God’s Word.
In verse 4 we see that God is the Rock. He is unmovable, unshakable, incorruptible. His work is perfect. The devil tried to pick holes in God’s Word and in God Himself in Genesis 3. Eve was deceived and she accepted his wicked ways. Adam knew better but he went along with his wife’s ideas. They found out that God’s way was perfect. It was the serpent that was corrupt. He has been trouble all along. However, he cannot destroy the Christian’s walk with the Lord. He can cause problems, but he cannot destroy it. We, those who are saved, do not need to allow him to infect us. If we accept God for Who He Is, we will avoid the lies of the devil. Our problem is that we do not always do that properly.
All God’s ways are judgment. Every time we read His Word, He shows us Truth and He shows us lies. He shows us good and He shows us evil. It is not difficult to see the difference if we know Him and walk humbly with Him. We can see that the war in the Middle East is not going to fix the problems there. We can see that this war is very costly and will not stop the Islamic aggression.
I just read recently of how the Muslims are moving into areas of Texas and taking over. They already have Minnesota and a few other parts of the States including New York. They are also in Canada. They do not need a majority to take control. They are very aggressive and they know how to play the system.
The world cannot see the trap they are walking into. True Christians should be able to see what is going on.
The true God is a God of Truth. There is no sin in Him. He is just and He is right. We need to submit to Him and know His blessing. Don’t try to rewrite God’s Word. Submit to Him and enjoy His blessings.
Verse 5 tells us what the problem is. They have corrupted themselves. Man cannot blame anyone else for his trouble. Adam tried to blame Eve and Eve tried to blame the serpent. God held each one accountable for their choices. The same still holds true. I cannot blame my wife for things I do wrong. We as people are given the ability to make choices. Adam was given that choice by God. God did not want a robot. He gave Adam all the information he needed. He provided all the opportunity to obey Him. He gave man the option to fail. Adam chose that option rather than Truth. He discovered that his choice had serious consequences. He knew that before he made that foolish choice.
God created man with a conscience. Man knows the basic difference between right and wrong. The reason Bill C9 is being debated is because the wicked do not want to be reminded that what they are doing and promoting is evil. They think if they shut it down, it will go away. They fail to accept that every person is going to be held accountable according to God’s pure and holy Word.
God says the spot in man is not the spot of His children. God does not cause anyone to sin. Adam tried to blame God for giving him Eve. There was nothing wrong with Eve when He presented her to Adam. Adam knew that then. He was excited to have this help meet for him. Eve was deceived, being the weaker vessel. Adam did not need to follow her lead. He was created to be the leader. He was to be the strong one in the family. He was to get his strength from the LORD. If he would have done that, he would never have fallen.
In our text, the Jews that died in the wilderness, would never have needed to die there if they would have trusted in the LORD. They lost out. He provided all they needed. They chose not to trust in Him. They chose to want things that were not good for them. They did not accept His judgment.
We need to check the sources we use to develop our ideas. Do those ideas pass the smell test? We need to exalt the true God to His rightful place.
