Exodus 26:7 And thou shalt make curtains of goats’ hair to be a covering upon the tabernacle: eleven curtains shalt thou make.
8 The length of one curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits: and the eleven curtains shall be all of one measure.
9 And thou shalt couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and shalt double the sixth curtain in the forefront of the tabernacle.
10 And thou shalt make fifty loops on the edge of the one curtain that is outmost in the coupling, and fifty loops in the edge of the curtain which coupleth the second.
11 And thou shalt make fifty taches of brass, and put the taches into the loops, and couple the tent together, that it may be one.
12 And the remnant that remaineth of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remaineth, shall hang over the backside of the tabernacle.
13 And a cubit on the one side, and a cubit on the other side of that which remaineth in the length of the curtains of the tent, it shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on this side and on that side, to cover it.
14 And thou shalt make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and a covering above of badgers’ skins.
Yesterday a Mormon religious building was destroyed by an arsonist’s fire. That arsonist was also a murderer. He is now in Hell awaiting that final judgment after which he will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity.
It is important for us to pray for the survivors of that tragic event. It is also important that we not accept the false narrative that this was a “Christian” church. It was not. Mormons have chosen to believe a lie rather than the truth. Joseph Smith was a false teacher who got his message from the devil. Jesus Christ is not the good brother of the evil devil. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.
The ecumenical crowd has chosen to accept many lies. As long as a person includes Jesus in their lies, it is good enough for them. They are free to believe that now, but they will discover that will not be acceptable with God. Ecumenists take offence to the Truth. A person can be as offended as they want to be, but in the end, God is still God. He is still holy and He has declared the Truth.
In our text we are continuing to read of God’s design for the Tabernacle. The instructions were not optional and they were not open for man to modify. They were very specific because they were a type of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Over the linen curtains God commanded for curtains made of goats’ hair. This would be a heavier and denser covering than the linen. Due to the size and weight of these curtains there were eleven of them that would fit together.
Keep in mind that the Tabernacle was portable. It would be moved as God directed. Everything needed to be taken apart and reassembled at the next location. The parts needed to be durable to be able to withstand this assembling and dismantling.
These curtains were a little larger than the linen curtains. However, they were coupled together with fifty loops just as the linen curtains. The linen curtains were coupled together with taches of gold. These curtains were coupled together with taches of brass. The linen curtains would be seen by the priests all the while they were in the Tabernacle. The gold taches would again be symbols of the deity of Jesus Christ.
Brass is used in the Bible in a good sense to depict strength. Certainly Jesus Christ was strong enough to go to the cross and shed His blood as the only way of forgiveness and salvation for man. He is also strong enough to keep all His sheep safe in His fold and in His hand and in His Father’s hand.
In a bad sense brass was used to describe the stubbornness of man. It would require the strength of the Lord to break the stubbornness of man. We see that the thief on the cross waited until Jesus’ crucifixion to cry out to Him for forgiveness and salvation. The Philippian jailor waited until he was facing sure death until he cried out for forgiveness and salvation. The apostle Paul, formerly Saul, waited until he was struck down to the ground and blinded before he acknowledged he had been fighting a losing battle against the Lord. Jesus Christ can still break the stubbornness of the lost sinner today. He provides salvation for all who come to God in repentance and faith.
As noted these curtains were larger than the linen ones. In verse12 we read that this was to provide the needed covering for the outside of the tent. The entire Tabernacle needed to be properly covered. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who can forgive sins, and He thus provides that covering for those who are forgiven and saved. His covering is all that is needed. We do not need Mary to help us and we do not need corrupted priests to intervene on our behalf. We have all we need in Jesus Christ.
There is a hymn that we have sung in the past that states “He is all I need, He is all I need, Jesus is all I need”. Of course that is based on the fact that Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins. He is the complete and absolute sacrifice that God the Father required to take away our sins. Those who put their trust in Him have no need to doubt that their salvation is secure and sufficient. Those who trust in the false teaching of the Charismatics and the Catholics and a host of other false religions never have the assurance. Some of them talk very bravely, but in their hearts they know they have nothing meaningful to hold on to.
God was giving Moses all the instructions that were needed to make this Tabernacle. As the people would look on that structure they would see the place that God provided for them to bring their sacrifices and have the priests offer them for their sins and also for thank offerings. Many of the people never came to know the blessing that God was providing for them. That was due to their unbelief. They had no legitimate reason to doubt what God said. He proved Himself to be sufficient for their every need. He would test them at times, but He always showed them that He was the answer to their need.
Today man can know that Jesus Christ is all we need to know the forgiveness of sins.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
II Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Eternal life is found in knowing the true Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are saved will find all they need to be able to walk the Christian life successfully. We do not need to look anywhere else. Many are running to and fro looking for something, but they are not finding it. If they would only settle on the truth, they could rest from their labours.
