Keep The Truth

Keep The Truth

I Timothy 6:20  O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21  Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

The apostle Paul had a genuine love of God in his heart. He also had a love for other saints. He wanted to see others standing strong and glorifying God in their lives.
I Timothy was written to Timothy, a man whom Paul had much to do with. He met him when he was a young person. Timothy had a Jewish mother who believed in God. He had a Greek father of whom we know little. The apostle Paul was directed by God to take young Timothy and treat him as a son. He took him along on his evangelistic endeavours. He poured his life into that young man. He did not just given him opinions. He gave him the Word of God.
Timothy could build his life on the same Word that the apostle Paul was building his life on. He would need to make sure he did not allow false teachers and false doctrine to infiltrate his heart and mind.
In verse 20 Paul was urging Timothy to keep that which was committed to his trust. The Word of God is precious. Jesus warned of giving pearls to the swine. The writer of Hebrews warns of those who would trample the truth under their feet. Timothy had proved himself to be a faithful man of God. However, Paul had witnessed other men who had seemed to be faithful for a time, but then walked away from the truth. He did not want to see this happen to Timothy.
Timothy needed to be careful not to allow the truth to get away from him. He did not need to hang on to it for dear life. He needed to guard against letting false teaching mess with his mind. One of the ways this could happen was with profane and vain babblings. The word translated as “profane” speaks of “unhallowed”, “common”. The Pharisees had many such words. They spoke many things that were against God and thus not approved of by God. They were worthless words, but many people were taken in by those worthless words. God did not want Timothy to get drawn into that garbage. If Timothy would keep to the truth, he would recognize the vanity of those other words.
Another important factor that Timothy needed to be aware of was “oppositions of science falsely so called”. There were people in Timothy’s day that were promoting lies as science. They tried to impress people with their “scientific” knowledge, but they had none.
For the past number of years our government has been promoting science falsely so called. They have done this in several ways, and one of those ways is with the “climate change” hoax. They have repeated their lies for so long that most people have accepted that climate change is a real danger to our existence. The fires that have begun in the west again are supposedly the result of “climate change”. No thought is given to the fact that fewer and fewer people are burning wood and so there is much deadfall which is not being gleaned for wood stoves, but is left lying in the bushes. Many of the fires are being started by people. Carelessness is rampant. Some of them are even being set intentionally just to try to prove that “climate change” is a real threat.
In recent weeks, we have been warned of a “new strain” of H5N1. This new strain is apparently infecting cattle. One of the false theories of “climate change” is that we have to stop eating beef. If we stop eating beef, there will be no market for it and farmers will stop producing beef. After all, we are told that the burping of the cattle is a major cause of climate change.
The government has been attacking meat eating for some time. They want us to eat crickets and other insects, but not beef.
One thing the government has rightfully earned is the title of liars. It is very difficult to believe anything the government says. Years ago, when I was farming, I was warned by older farmers to be careful with government recommendations. They stated that if the government recommended growing a certain crop in a particular year, it was generally wise to stay away from that crop. The government does not have a good pulse of what is needed and what is not. After all they are far too concerned with legalizing hard drugs and do not have time for good governance. They are also promoting the sodomite agenda and want to see young children sterilized so they cannot grow up to become parents. The world powers have declared there are far too many people on earth and we need to bring the population down by large numbers. They have no way of addressing the larger families that Muslims have. I suppose they might hope that the infighting among that group of people will limit its growth. We are seeing that sector of society becoming much more vocal just in the past little while. That is the topic for another day.
Science falsely so called is a very real problem. God did not want Timothy to get drawn into believing that and getting on a band wagon that was a lie. Good stewardship is always important, but that has nothing to do with driving cars or eating beef.
In verse 21 Paul was directed to warn that there were some who had erred concerning the faith because they had been caught up with profane and vain babbling and science falsely so called. Timothy needed to hold to the truth he had been taught and he needed to speak the truth to others. You notice that Paul desired grace to be with Timothy. God’s grace would keep him from falling for the lies. God’s grace would strengthen him in the inner man so that he did not run with the deceivers. He could remain strong and grow stronger in the faith as he would avoid the lies that were common then and are also common now.
We can see how people are falling for the lies today. The reason is that they have rejected the truth. It is a shame to have our P.M. stand before cameras and microphones and continue to lie to the people. He gets very upset when he thinks someone is not taking him seriously. The opposition parties have also fallen for the lies he is promoting. Some of them think they have a better approach to dealing with the “problem”, but none of them is willing to speak the truth.
Many religions have also bought into the lie of “climate change”. They are using different methods to try to encourage their followers to be more proactive in addressing this issue. Meanwhile, China and India and other countries are continuing to use things that we are being told are deadly and must be stopped.
It is when pastors teach the whole counsel of God that we can help others to stop and think. A few of the deceived might even stop and think. They might even change their views. Others will get angry and try to silence the truth. However, the truth is still needed and it is the truth that will make people free.
Today is the Lord’s Day. It is another day for saints to honour the true God Who redeemed them. Saints do that by being obedient to the Word of God. Rather than support the liars who claim that churches are irrelevant, true saints need to believe the Word of God. Jesus Christ gave His life so that people could be saved. He declared that He would build His church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Until the Rapture takes place, true local churches are God’s main vehicle to make His name known. Lost people need to know where to turn. Saved people need to grow. The local church is the place God has designed as the central place for truth to be preached and taught.

Hebrews 10:25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
