Exodus 29:25 And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
26 And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s consecration, and wave it for a wave offering before the LORD: and it shall be thy part.
27 And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the shoulder of the heave offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of the consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons:
28 And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an heave offering: and it shall be an heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the LORD.
29 And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons’ after him, to be anointed therein, and to be consecrated in them.
30 And that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days, when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congregation to minister in the holy place.
31 And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration, and seethe his flesh in the holy place.
32 And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
33 And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.
34 And if ought of the flesh of the consecrations, or of the bread, remain unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.
35 And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his sons, according to all things which I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them.
After Aaron and his sons waved the parts of the ram before the Lord, they needed to give them to Moses who then took them and burned them upon the altar for a burnt offering. God would be pleased with this offering, given from an obedient heart.
After that Moses was to take the breast of the ram that had been for Aaron’s consecration and that was to be waved before the LORD as a wave offering. After waving that, it was to be Moses’ part of the offering. After waving that part of the ram along with the shoulder of the heave offering, Moses was to give those parts to Aaron and his sons. This was the law of this particular offering. Every time that Aaron would fulfil the offering in the future, this was the order.
In verse 28 we read that this was to be the peace offering of the children of Israel. Jesus Christ would be the true peace offering. He would shed His blood and lay down His life for the sins of the world. He would offer Himself as the pure and ultimate sacrifice for sin. Peace with God is found through knowing the true Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In verse 29 we read of the holy garments of Aaron. Those holy garments were to be passed on to his sons after him. There would not be new garments made for them. They would wear the same garments. Aaron would be the high priest. His son Eleazar was appointed the high priest after his death. Eleazar would need to put those garments on and wear them for seven days when he would appointed as the high priest. The order and the detail were important. There could be no shortcut to what God was commanding here. Moses needed to take detailed notes and God would also give him the recall he would need to instruct Aaron and his sons on these matters.
In verse 31 we are given more detail on the ram of consecration. This ram needed to be seethed or boiled in the holy place. Aaron and his sons were to eat the flesh of this ram along with the bread that was in the basket. They were to eat this by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. This was not a leisurely meal that was to be eaten in a relaxing manner. This was again a picture of how Jesus Christ would become sin for us, even though He personally never knew any sin. Jesus never sinned.
Aaron and his sons needed to eat these parts; however a stranger could not eat of this food. This was not something to be shared with just anyone. There was an important symbolism to this meal. This meal was holy. If there was more than Aaron and his sons could eat, they needed to take the left overs the next morning and burn them in the fire. They could not eat it on the second day. The same reason was given. This was a holy offering that had been made unto the Lord. The actions of the priest were to reflect the holiness of what they were doing.
This was a lot of information that God was giving to Moses in those forty days in the mount. We do not read that Moses got tired of hearing from God. Obviously God was with him and He would equip Moses to be able to remember all this detail. God has no idle words and what He was commanding Moses was important.
Again this consecration was for a seven day period. The number seven is sometimes used in the Bible to speak of the number of God. It speaks of perfection and completion. Seven days were required to get the priest into that holy state that God required of them. This was a very serious time for Aaron and his sons. They were being prepared for a duty that not just anyone could fulfil. Even though Moses had seventy elders to help him with the governing of the nation, those men could not act as priests. After Aaron and his sons were consecrated, Moses was no longer in that capacity as a priest either. He had other important duties to fulfil. Aaron and his sons were entrusted with a very important task. They were to be the mediators between God and man. Aaron was the first high priest and he had an important function to fulfil. He would be the only one who could enter into the holiest place. He needed to make sure his heart was in a right place with God before he would enter that place. His sons also needed to be in a right relationship with God to fulfil their duties as priests.
Serving God is important. It is not something for just anyone. No one should simply choose that place because they think it is a place of power and prestige.
The Pharisees and their friends would assume places of authority shortly before the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. They would continue on throughout His earthly ministry and even beyond that time. They were not appointed by God. They put themselves in places of authority. They would regret that after they died. They would face greater condemnation because they assumed an authority they never had. They corrupted many people. God would hold them accountable for their wickedness.
God still requires truth from those who choose to be spiritual leaders. It is no light thing to be a spiritual leader. Accountability follows those who put themselves in such a place. The accountability is toward God. It is a foolish thing for anyone to follow these self-appointed people who have no authority from God.
Every person needs to be careful who you choose to believe and follow. God’s Word is the only authority to guide us in choosing the right leaders. Man’s opinions have no authority. Submission to God’s Word is important.
