How Pleasant to Be In God’s Family

How Pleasant to Be In God’s Family

Song of Solomon 7:1  How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince’s daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.
2  Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.
3  Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.
4  Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
5  Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries.
6  How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
7  This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.

God continued to guide king Solomon in the writing of this book. The groom took notice of the feet of his bride. She was not barefoot, but had shoes on. Even her feet were beautiful to the groom. The groom addressed her as the “princes daughter”. Of course we know that Solomon’s first wife was the daughter of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Solomon noted that her thighs were like jewels. He recognized that she was not an accident, but that there was a designer who made her. That designer is God. God created man. Since the fall, we all have our defects, but there is still beauty to behold in the human body.
In verse 2 Solomon spoke of the navel and its nature. It was like a goblet that was never empty. Her belly was like a heap of wheat with lilies set about it. A good heap of wheat indicates a good harvest. To have lilies around that would just add to the beauty that the man would see in that.
The description here is a continued picture of the relationship between the groom — Jesus Christ, and His bride, the true saints in true local churches. Jesus’ feet are beautiful in that He came and brought salvation to mankind. The feet of those who are saved are beautiful when they proclaim the truth to others.
In verse 3 Solomon again spoke of her breasts. His bride was well made. Every aspect of her body was pleasing to him. In verse 4 he spoke of her neck. It was like a tower of ivory. We know that Solomon had much ivory in his palace. He liked it and he imported much of it. He likened his bride’s neck to that of the ivory he was so fond of. Her eyes were like the fish pools of Heshbon. Her eyes were active. It is good to see eyes that are alive. His bride was alive and she was excited about having him as her groom. That excitement showed itself in her eyes.
Solomon further spoke of her nose. It was like the tower of Lebanon. Some nationalities have shorter noses. Others have more of a protruding nose. Solomon took note of her nose. It was not too big and it was not out of place. Psalm 139 speaks of the Lord’s watchfulness over the baby in the womb. Nothing is left to chance.
In verse 5 we read that her head was like Carmel. Mount Carmel is one of the more beautiful places in Israel. There is a national park there now. It is a place to go to. Solomon also spoke of her hair being like purple. Solomon was not speaking of the actual colour of her hair. He was not promoting the foolishness of the women who colour their hair purple and other colours as well. He was using that language to speak of the beauty of her hair and the fulness of her head of hair. It was a picture of a woman of royalty. There are women today who have a full head of hair and there are others who do not have as much hair. Each person is born unique.
In our text, the king was attracted to her hair. He took notice of that as well. God is able to give a man the woman He has for him if the man will listen to God. Again, once a man chooses his bride, he needs to be content with what he has chosen. He does not put her to the side and pick a different one as he gets “tired” of her. Too often marriages end in divorce because the couple has a wrong view of marriage and they do not build their marriage on the Word of God. If God is not central in your life, you are playing a dangerous game in many ways. There are people who are unsaved and they remain married for their entire lifetime. That is good, whether the couple is saved or not. However, that does not take away from the fact that a godly marriage will be much better than an ungodly marriage. When Jesus Christ is Saviour and Lord, life will go better.
In verses 6-7 the groom summarizes the features of his bride. The man has many responsibilities. God knew that when He created man. He said it is not good for the man to be alone. He made the help meet for the man. Not all men will marry. Not all women will marry. If you are single and content to be that way, so be it. However, the majority of men and women will desire to marry. Those that choose marriage, would be wise to be sure they are saved first of all so that they can have the blessing of God upon their lives as they seek out a spouse. Solomon wrote of how fair and how beautiful his wife was for him. Her stature was like a palm tree. The palm tree stretches up into the sky and it has broad branches that offer shelter underneath them. Again Solomon spoke of her breasts, this time referring them to clusters of grapes.

Proverbs 5:19  Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

The woman’s breasts serve several purposes and one of them is for the satisfaction of her husband. She does not need to flaunt them. In today’s world far too many women are showing off cleavage which is not good. That should be kept for the husband to see in the privacy of the bedroom. Too many churches are silent on these matters and are not reminding men and women of Biblical decency. Too many women like to have men drooling over their physical features. Then they act surprised when some man comes on too strong toward them. If you are not for sale, then don’t advertise. That language may be offensive to some, but that is only because they want to parade themselves and think they should have the “right” to do so.
A godly husband wants to protect his wife and he wants to keep her for himself. He does not want her to be advertising herself to strangers in the streets.
The same is true in the Spiritual realm. There are privileges that true church members have that non-members cannot have. Non-members do not want that intimacy with the Lord. Their souls do and they try to manufacture that outside of God’s boundaries, but it does not satisfy.
I listened to a Catholic woman who said she visited a couple of Protestant churches and she observed the worldly music and the raising of the hands and the shallow preaching, and she missed her Catholic environment. She was a deluded woman. She was right in seeing that most Protestant churches are competing with the world, rather than seeking to show the world a better way. She was wrong in thinking that her Catholic religion had anything good to offer. It is traditional and more ritualistic but it is void of truth.
A true church offers godly music and the preaching is Spirit led and Spirit filled. It is designed to minister to the true needs of those who attend. A true church is not there to compete with the world. It is there to show that the world has nothing to offer.

I John 2:15  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

If you are attracted to the worldly churches, God is telling you there is something seriously wrong with your heart. Don’t shut God out. He knows what He is talking about. Listen to Him and repent and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and you will no longer desire the worldly churches. You will desire truth in your heart and life.
