Look Up To The LORD

Zechariah 2:1  I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
2  Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
3  And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
4  And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
5  For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

In the short book of Zechariah, we find several visions. God used pictures to help Zechariah to understand what He was doing. He was told to use these pictures to help the Jews to understand what God was doing. Some of the pictures were not easy to understand. Zechariah needed to ask God for further understanding of them. This is now the fourth vision of this book.
As we mentioned before, God used symbolism often in the Bible. He used it often in prophecy. We also stated that we should not speculate on what the symbolism is unless God tells us what it represents.
In verse 1 we read that Zechariah lifted up his eyes. He needed to look at what God was showing him. He did not have his eyes closed to envision something. He did not put himself into a trance to set the mood. He was clear minded and he was open to hear what God had for him and for his readers.
Zechariah saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. In verse 2 Zechariah was able to interact with this man. He wanted to know where this man was going. The man responded by saying he was going to measure Jerusalem. He wanted to know the breadth and the length of it.
In verse 3 we see that this “man” was an angel. We have stated before that angels are always male in nature, in the Bible. This angel went about his work, and another angel went out to meet him. God has many angels that He can enlist for His work.
In verse 4 we read that this second angel told the first angel to run, and speak to this young man. Zechariah is described here as a young man. He needed to be encouraged with what was coming. This good news would take place long after Zechariah was dead and gone. In fact it is still more than seven years from our day today. The Tribulation is seven years. The Rapture has not taken place yet, thus it is more than seven years away. The time spoken of here is the Millennium. How do we know this?
The angel tells this young man that Jerusalem will be inhabited as towns without walls. There will be many people living there, as well as cattle. The fact that Jerusalem will be without walls, means that there will be no threat to the city. We have seen in our study of Ezekiel, that there is a war that is going to take place at a time when Israel will be without fear of attack. That will be a delusional belief and will make them vulnerable to an attack. We believe that war will take place during the Tribulation. Why? During the millennium there is no war until the end of that time. During the millennium, Jesus Christ will reign and He will rule with a rod of iron. He will keep the peace. Not all people living during that time will want to follow Him, but they will have no choice. They will not all trust in Him as their King and Saviour, but they will not have opportunity to oppose Him until the end of the millennium. There will be one last battle then, but it will be short lived. Jesus Christ will destroy the devil and cast him into the lake of fire at that time, and all the rebels that chose to follow Satan for that brief period will be cast into hell and then the great white throne judgment will take place.
In verse 5 of our text we see this clearly. The LORD will be Jerusalem’s wall. The LORD there is Jesus Christ. He will be a wall of fire round about her. God used fire to protect His people during the wilderness wanderings. No one could attack them as long as that wall of fire was there.
In our text that wall of fire will be on this earth during the millennium. That wall of fire will be the glory of God in the midst of Jerusalem. Jesus Christ will be in the midst of Jerusalem during that entire time. He will have saints helping Him, but He will be in charge. There will be no corruption like we see in our government today.
Christia Freeland just took a position assisting the Ukrainian government as a financial advisor. She was a poor financial advisor in Canada. Canada has sent billions of dollars to the Ukraine already. Very convenient that she will be there sucking off that money for her benefit. She is acting against the law right now by still being an MP and also going to the Ukraine. For the Liberals this is not a problem. They break the laws all the time. They wrongly assume they are above the law and they have most of the media on their payroll so they manipulate them to say what they want us to hear. We are not far from Germany during the years of Hitler.
There will be none of that in the millennium. Jesus will not allow that to take place. Zechariah was told to write this as encouragement to the nation of Israel. Israel could be living in much greater security today, if they would acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah. They rejected Him while He was on this earth. They demanded He be crucified and they invited His blood to be upon them and their children. There are probably some Jews that regret that their forefathers ever made such a statement. However, the nation has not yet repented toward God. That will come, but not for a while yet.
Today, God is a wall to those who are saved. We will face persecution. We will face hardships. However, we are protected from perishing. The world can hurt our bodies, but it cannot take our souls, if we are saved. We have His guarantee on that. We can be bold for the Lord, because He cares about us. He will guide us in making wise decisions that will be a blessing to others. It is important to know the true God and to follow Him faithfully today.
