A Charge Worth Heeding

A Charge Worth Heeding

Exodus 6:1  Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
2  And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
3  And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
4  And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
5  And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
6  Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
7  And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
8  And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.
9  And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
10  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
11  Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
12  And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?
13  And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

The world needs to know Who is in charge. The U.S. has a president who believes in talking a lot. He is a very boastful man. However, he also backs up some of his talk with proof. He has managed to accomplish a few good things because he has demonstrated that he will act if his words are not heeded. In Canada we have governments that talk big, but they have no ability to follow through with their actions. The murder rate in our country is out of control. The govt. talks of bail reform. They put in the injustice system that we currently have. They talk of making changes, but they don’t make any meaningful changes. Criminals face no serious consequences and thus life becomes very cheap. However, in spite of this reality, all people will still stand before the Judge of the whole earth one day.
On that day, there will be no lawyers to intervene. There will be no arguments from some vague law. There will be the Lord Jesus Christ and the person. The Lord Jesus Christ knows all things and nothing will be hid from Him. Those who are saved will meet the Lord at the “judgment seat of Christ”. There it will be determined what place the saved person will have in heaven. It will be announced as to what the rewards will be or what the loss of rewards will be. This will not be a long deliberation. That will be announced immediately. There will be no backlog of cases that will cause some to be dismissed. Everything will be done decently and in order.
Those who are lost will meet the same Lord Jesus Christ at the “great white throne judgment”. There the books will be opened and each lost person will be judged according to their works. The book of life will be there as well, but none of those at that judgment will have their name written in that book. They will be exposed in a moment of time for their rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. All those at that judgment will be cast into the lake of fire. That judgment also will not be a long drawn out affair. There will be no arguments made. Those at that judgment will be in such fear that they will not dare to open their mouths. They will know they deserve all that is coming to them.
Since God is merciful, He has shown us many times in His Word, of the severity of His judgment. Man needs to know the importance of knowing the true God.
God had given the Pharaohs opportunity to know Him over the years. Now He would show this Pharaoh and the people of Egypt, the effect of rejecting Him. God would demonstrate His strong hand and He would accomplish His plan.
God again reminded Moses of Who He was. Moses needed to have full assurance that he was representing the LORD. He needed to be reminded of Who this LORD was. His forefathers had known the Lord by the name of God Almighty. However, they had not known Him as JEHOVAH. God had His reasons for withholding that information from them.
When we do a search of the name LORD we find that God used that name ninety six times prior to our text. God does not lie. Even though He used that name before this, He obviously did not reveal the full extent of the meaning of that name as He would do now. Moses and the Hebrews would get a greater understanding of the true God now. This Pharaoh would also see Him in a different light. It would take some time for Pharaoh to see the facts but he would see them. In fact, he would discover the fact of who the LORD was through his death. He was a stubborn and proud man. He will meet the LORD at that great white throne judgment. He will have all eternity to regret his arrogance.
In verse 4 Moses was reminded again of the faithfulness of the LORD. He does not have any idle words. He made His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and He would fulfil that covenant. Their descendants would take up residence in the land of Canaan. That was a promise made and it was a promise that would be kept. God never makes an empty promise.
Moses was also assured that God had heard the groaning of the children of Israel. He knew all that the Egyptians were doing to them. He again reminded Moses that He remembered His covenant.
Moses needed to remind the children of Israel that the LORD is the I Am. He is the ever present LORD. He would bring them out from under their bondage to the Egyptians. That was not a difficult task for the LORD. He would use force to get them out of that situation. The bigger problem for the Hebrews was their hearts. God could force Himself upon them and He could force them to change their hearts, but He did not do that and He does not do that. He requires man to choose to know Him and follow Him.
Moses needed to assure the Hebrews that His Word was sure. Its surety was based in the fact that He is the LORD. He is not a fleeting imagination. False gods are worthless. Nations have developed them and they have been proven to be nothing. Canada has “mother nature”, and God often reminds us that “mother nature” is nothing. Yet our nation still insists they will worship that false god.
In verse 9 we read that in spite of Moses’ words, the Hebrews did not believe what he was saying. They were in such anguish of spirit due to their cruel bondage, that they refused to believe there was any hope available. They would soon find out differently.
In verse 11 Moses was commanded to go and speak to Pharaoh. In verse 12 Moses again argued with the LORD. If the children of Israel would not hear him, how would Pharaoh hear him. The word “hear” in this context is more than just hearing words. It is acting on what is said.
Pharaoh was an ungodly man, of “uncircumcised lips”. He had no regard for God. Why should he listen to Moses?
The LORD is not deterred by man’s doubts. In verse 13 He gave them a charge. Moses had no right and no reason to keep doubting the LORD. He would discover that the LORD is so much more than he currently understood. The children of Israel would also discover the same thing.
It is important to know the true God. It is important to trust Him even when things seem as though He cannot handle the situation. We know that our country is out of control, as far as human order is concerned. We know that there is no man who has the answer to our mess. However, those who are saved, should know that the LORD, the same LORD that Moses and the nation of Israel needed to know, is still in charge. Our hope in this country is not in the overthrow of wicked governments. That will not happen. However, we do know that these governments are on a time stamp. They all have an expiration date. Furthermore, we know that our lives have an expiration date. In the short time we have here, we need to walk in the fear of the Lord and seek to help others to know Him as well. Our hope is in the new heavens and the new earth. We need to live in such a way as to help others to see the significance of that hope as well. We do not dismiss what is happening all around us now. We try to make things better, but we know we cannot make things better through the courts or with “elections”.
There are some one hundred “candidates” on the ballot for the current bi-election that will be held to try to get Mr. Pollievre back into parliament. This is all designed to make a further mockery of the electoral system. The government has no solution to this mess. We are moving to a full dictatorship and then there will be no further shenanigans like this.
The hope of true Christians is not in some human government. The children of Israel were not supposed to look for reforms in Egypt. They were supposed to look to the LORD to bring them out of that mess and into the land of Canaan. On their way to that land, they were supposed to learn of Him and trust Him to bless them. They did not learn that important lesson. They still have not learned that important lesson today. A few have trusted in Him and they are resting in Him today.
In the Gentile world, a few have trusted in the LORD but the majority have no interest in truth. Today is the Lord’s Day. Every true child of God that is able to, should be preparing to go to a good church today. We should be doing all we can to demonstrate our faith in the true God. We should be seeking to show our neighbours and others that we believe in the true God and we want them to come to believe in Him as well. Don’t miss out on His blessings today.
