Exodus 37:10 And he made the table of shittim wood: two cubits was the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof:
11 And he overlaid it with pure gold, and made thereunto a crown of gold round about.
12 Also he made thereunto a border of an handbreadth round about; and made a crown of gold for the border thereof round about.
13 And he cast for it four rings of gold, and put the rings upon the four corners that were in the four feet thereof.
14 Over against the border were the rings, the places for the staves to bear the table.
15 And he made the staves of shittim wood, and overlaid them with gold, to bear the table.
16 And he made the vessels which were upon the table, his dishes, and his spoons, and his bowls, and his covers to cover withal, of pure gold.
In yesterday’s devotional we warned of the fact that the philosophy of Hitler and the Nazis is still alive and well through Catholicism and Islam. Both of those groups supported Hitler in his plans. This morning I saw a report that stated that Islam has an oath called a bayahin that is part of their law to take over the world. Qatar is heavily involved in promoting the Muslim philosophy. President Trump, the supposed great peace maker is protecting Qatar against Israel. He is also working with Turkey, another strong Muslim country to take two hundred Hamas terrorists and then disperse them throughout the region. Is it any wonder that peace cannot be found? When the assumed most powerful leader in the world cannot see who the enemy is and is protecting the enemy while at the same time claiming to want to defeat the enemy, we are in big trouble. The duplicity that rules in high places is going to continue until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God directed the apostle Paul to remind those who are truly born again:
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
There is a saying: ‘we cannot see the forest for the trees’. The world is wilfully blind. Those who are truly born again have been brought into the Light. It is important to walk in the Light and be dressed as Paul further wrote in Ephesians 6.
In our text for today, the table mentioned here was the table for the shewbread. The shewbread was a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Bread of life.
This table was also overlaid with pure gold and it also had a crown of gold around it. This again was depicting the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not only the Bread of life, He is the Saviour and He is the King of kings. Kings wear crowns. King David took the crown from the king of the children of Ammon. The weight of that crown was a talent of gold with precious jewels in it. This was a fancier crown than that which he had.
This table also had four golden rings, one in each corner. This table was also to be transported by two staves slid through those golden rings. Again we see the precise nature of everything God designed for the tabernacle.
The instructions for the staves was also given. Nothing was left to chance, or to personal imagination. The staves were overlaid with gold as well.
We read as well that there were vessels associated with this table. There were the dishes and the spoons and the bowls and the covers for them. All of that was of pure gold.
To the natural man, there was much value in that tabernacle. That was the attraction for foreign nations later on. The gold of the temple was also stripped off several times as the various kings of Judah would try to buy peace with their enemies. They failed to see that peace comes from the Prince of peace, not with money.
Psalm 23 tells us that the Lord prepares a table for His sheep in the presence of his enemies. It is good to be able to pull up to that table regardless of what is happening outside. Generally we consider it a privilege to be invited to sit at the table with someone else.
In II Samuel 9 we read that David decreed that Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, was to eat at king David’s table after the death of king Saul and Jonathan. Mephibosheth was lame due to an injury he received. That did not matter to David. David had a love for Jonathan and he wanted to show that love to his son. This would have been a great honour for Mephibosheth.
Again we are reminded that the table is often associated with food and provisions. To be invited to eat at the king’s table would be quite the honour. Of course there would be the need to know how to conduct oneself at such an honoured table.
Jesus Christ is the Bread of life and those who receive eternal life through Him are a privileged lot. The book of the Revelation tells us there is a final table where the saints will meet in heaven. This table is at the marriage supper of the Lamb. The word “table” is not mentioned there, but it is a supper and supper is conducted at a table. That table will be blessed as none on earth is. The Lamb, Jesus Christ will be there. Those who are born again are privileged to be at that supper. It is important to be one that is privileged to be invited to that supper. The only way that can happen is through the new birth. All those who are born again will be invited to join in that great supper. There will be no gluttony there. There will be a rejoicing to have been made worthy to be at that table, through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is important to be one of those who are invited to that supper. There is no tabernacle today. There is no temple today. Jesus Christ is the Temple, and He is seated on the right hand of His Father in heaven. Those who are saved can feast on Him as the Bread of life. Be sure you know Him and you are partaking of that Bread. Nothing else will sustain you.
