Who Controls Your Mouth?

Who Controls Your Mouth?

Exodus 4:8  And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
9  And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
10  And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11  And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
12  Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13  And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14  And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15  And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16  And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17  And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

It is impossible to live the Christian life without true faith.

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It is amazing to observe people who have no faith in God or in the Bible, but they are willing to trust a corrupt system of government known as democracy. They will go to the polls and mark their ballot and then think they have an important part in who will form government. The democratic system is flawed from the outset. It cannot work. The reason being that the majority of mankind is lost and thus not interested in what God has to say.
Moses was a man of God, but he had some things to learn. God was not teaching him some democratic fashion of dealing with things. God was revealing Himself to Moses as the LORD. He declared Himself to be the I AM. He is the self-existent God Who is ever present.
God had given Moses several signs now to prove Who He was. Moses was still arguing with God. How could Moses expect the people to believe him if he would not believe God? In verse 8 God told Moses that He had another sign for him. This time Moses was to take some water from the river and pour it upon the dry land. The water would become blood on the dry land. This does not normally happen.
Even after Moses was given these miraculous signs, he still wanted to argue with God. In verse 9 he claimed he was not an eloquent speaker. Moses was focused on the externals and was not paying attention to Who God was. His “humility” was a false humility. He was actually too proud to humble himself and simply do as God was telling him.
Again, God did not accept his excuse. God asked Moses who made his mouth? Who causes a person to be dumb or deaf? Who causes a person to see or be blind? God did not wait for Moses to answer Him. He told him that it was He, the LORD that made man and all the aspects of man. God further told Moses that He would be with his mouth. He would teach him what he needed to say. Every person that speaks in public has the opportunity of making mistakes. We can easily misspeak. However, in Moses’ case, this would not happen, because the LORD had a direct message for the people. Unlike a pastor who needs to study in preparation for preaching, Moses received the very words he was to speak directly from the LORD. We will see that there would be times when Moses would ignore God’s message and he would add his own words to what God wanted. That would not be good for Moses, nor for the people.
Even after God again gave Moses a direct command in verse 12, Moses still insisted that He send someone else. The LORD had a plan and He was going to work out His plan. Moses was His chosen vessel. In verse 13 we see that Moses had now kindled the anger of the LORD against him. This is not a wise thing to do. Now Moses was going to lose some of the blessing that God wanted for him. Now God would enlist the help of Aaron, in this matter. This was not a change of mind for God. God knew what was happening and what was going to happen. He gave Moses all the opportunity he needed to surrender to the will of the LORD. Now the LORD would enlist the help of Moses’ brother in this matter. Aaron was more of a natural when it came to speaking to others. He was not as easily intimidated as Moses was. God would give Moses the words to speak and Moses would give those words to Aaron. Moses would be like God to Aaron. Aaron would need to have respect for Moses and he would need to speak exactly what God told Moses. Later on we find that Moses did not need Aaron any longer as his mouthpiece, but for now that was how it would be.
Moses was to take the rod that he had in his hand and he was to have it ready to do the signs that God had given him. Before Moses would be sent to Pharaoh, he needed to have the elders of the Hebrews on his side. This was by God’s design.
Now, the resistance was finished. Moses was now out of arguments and now he needed to prepare to leave and do as God had commanded him. He would need to step out in faith. This was not a blind faith. That was a faith based in the true God. This true God had revealed Himself to Moses. He knew how God had protected him as a young child. He had witnessed the LORD at the burning bush. He had seen the power of God in part in the three signs that God had given him. He would see more of the greatness of the LORD yet. He needed to step out in faith and just do what God told him to do.
This is the same thing for every born again Christian. God has a general purpose for all saved individuals. We are to testify of Jesus Christ to all people. God has a specific calling for every saved person as well. There are too many professing saved people who are disobedient to the Lord at this time. Jesus stated:

Luke 10:2  Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

There is a great need for saved individuals to work in God’s harvest. Just as Moses had excuses, there are saved people today who are making excuses, rather than submitting to the will of God. This will not be good for them when they meet the Lord. It is also not good for the many who need to be reminded of the importance of trusting in the true God.
It is important to be born again first of all. Then it is important to become a part of a true local church where you can learn how to study and apply the Word of God. You do not need to find a particular college to attend. Any true local church will be the college you need to attend. You just need to be in the place where God wants you. Ask God to prepare your heart for the work He has for you. Then set about to do what He is calling you to do. You will never regret submitting to His will and serving Him faithfully.
